PM BAINIMARAMA MEETS WITH CORAL COAST FAMILIES CONCERNING ELECTRICITY

1/2/2014

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama recently met with families at Votua Housing Settlement along the CoralĀ Coast to address their concerns regarding the lack of electricity in their community.

The concerns of the community, especially its impact on the children, prompted the Head of Government to visit them and look at ways of addressing their concerns.

In response, he has instructed the relevant authorities, including the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA), to look at addressing their concerns.

The Turaga-ni-Koro of the area, Elimeleki Turagarogo thanked the Prime Minister for his visit and talking to residents firsthand after the issue was raised with his office.

Providing some form of electricity to all homes in Fiji, whether in the rural areas or remote islands, has been a goal for the Bainimarama Government.

In the recent past, the Head of Government has opened many electrification projects such as solar projects, coco-diesel projects and the Nadarivatu Hydro Scheme.

Government has dedicated $10 million in the 2014 National Budget for rural electrification projects.
